Ibis is a small and informal gallery owned by Carolyn Metcalfe and Hennie Kok, used exclusively as exhibition space for our own work and where we can sell at reasonable prices and engage directly with the public.  We both take enormous pleasure in working  and aim always to produce  that which is functional as well as beautiful, that has an appeal that is timeless and not merely fashion driven, and  to which we have given constant creative attention and all the time it needed to be carefully and well made.

For our work we use materials and traditions that that have been around for centuries and will endure into the future  –  wood, clay, pigments,  oils, wax.  We like feeling that we are part of a tradition of hand crafters and workers that stretches back in time, that we have skills that people have been developing and using for centuries and that our work will continue to give pleasure and have meaning long after we have ceased to exist.

“Don’t make something unless it is both necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful, don’t hesitate to make it beautiful.” - Shaker philosophy
